What your customer receives

An email from your own address, with the validated invoice attached and the subject and message you choose. Your code makes one call and keeps the message id the API returns.

  • ZUGFeRD and Factur-X as a PDF/A-3 with the XML inside
  • XRechnung, UBL and CII as the XML file
  • Your subject and message in any language, or a short English default naming the invoice number
  • Your finance department in copy in the same call, with cc and bcc addresses
  • Replies go to the sender, or to the reply-to address you set

Email Delivery

Create or embed a compliant e-invoice and email it to your customer from your own domain, in one call.

Set up once, then send with every invoice

Your invoices go out from your own domain, so your customers see your name and their replies reach your team. The domain is set up once in your dashboard.

1

Add your domain

Open Verified email domains in your dashboard and add your domain, or a subdomain such as mail.yourcompany.com.

2

Publish three DNS records

Copy the three CNAME (DKIM) records to your DNS provider. The status turns to Verified, usually within minutes and at most 72 hours later.

3

Send with one call

Call an email endpoint with your invoice and the email details. Any address on the domain works as the sender, for example [email protected].

See pricing for the plans that include email delivery.

Why send e-invoices through the API?

Only valid invoices go out

The invoice is checked against its official rules before anything is sent. When a rule fails you get the findings back, and your customer never receives a broken file.

Your name, your domain

Emails come from any address on your verified domain, such as [email protected], with an optional display name and reply-to address, so your customers deal with you directly.

Every format, or your own PDF

Create ZUGFeRD, Factur-X, XRechnung, UBL or CII from JSON, or keep the PDF you already render and have your XML embedded as Factur-X or ZUGFeRD before it is sent.

No copy kept

No copy of the attached invoice or of your subject and message is kept. Keep the message id from the response to ask about a delivery later.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the email delivery API do?

It combines two steps into one call: the API creates your e-invoice from JSON, or embeds your XML into your own PDF, validates it, and emails it to your customer from an address on your own domain. The response tells you the email was accepted for delivery and gives you a message id.

Which formats can I send?

ZUGFeRD and Factur-X as a PDF/A-3 with the XML embedded, XRechnung, UBL and CII as the XML file, each created from JSON. If you already render your own PDF, the embed endpoints turn it into a Factur-X or ZUGFeRD PDF/A-3 with your XML and send that.

How do I send from my own address?

Add your domain, or a subdomain, on the Verified email domains page of your dashboard and publish the three DNS records it shows. Verification usually takes a few minutes and can take up to 72 hours. From then on any address on that domain works as the sender.

Can my finance department get a copy?

Yes. Add cc or bcc addresses to the email, for example [email protected] or your accountant's address, and the same email with the invoice reaches them in the same call. Bcc addresses stay hidden from your customer.

What does it cost?

Each successful call costs one credit, like every other endpoint. The pricing page lists the plans that include email delivery and how many sending domains each one has.

Is the invoice or the email stored?

InvoiceXML keeps no copy of the attached invoice or of your subject and message. The message id is listed with the call in your API logs. If an email bounces or the recipient marks it as spam, that recipient address is kept so it is not emailed again.
